Stained Glass Snowflake Instructional Video

VIDEO
This instructional video is for beginner and non-beginner stained glass students. However, it is recommended that you have good eyesight and hand dexterity in order to wrap ¼†wide copper tape around 3/8†size round glass pieces. This video teaches you how to make 2 different stained glass snowflake window hangings. Student learns to foil, solder, hang, and clean, using all precut glass.  (Snowflake kits include precut glass, so no glass cutting skills required, but can be learned from the Beginner Stained Glass Cutting Video.) Over a dozen patterns are available for in person class. These make great gifts for any occasion.
TOOLS, SUPPLIES, AND MATERIALS
You will need to purchase a soldering iron set up and fid or sharpened dowel.  You can purchase tools and materials from Great Glass Galore and pick them up at the studio or have them shipped. To get a list of tools, supplies, and materials needed, you can request one by replying to this email or go to www.greatglassgalore.com, click on "Classes", then click on "Project In A Day Classes" in the pull down menu, then go down the "Tools, Supplies, and Materials" section under the "Stained Glass Snowflake Instruction Video" section and click on "here".

Beginner Glass Fusing Video Instruction

Beginner Fusing Glass Class Video

Fusing is the process of melting glass together in a kiln. This process is most commonly used for making dishes, flat panels, and jewelry. This hour long beginner video introduces you to the materials used in fusing, how to use them (clean, stack and glue), demos building a sample dish project, covers the firing schedule for the dish, and shows you how it is fired in the kiln. It also talks about the properties of the glass as it heats and cools, along with rates of temperature changes through these properties. Very basic cutting techniques are also taught in this class. (For a more in depth cutting lesson, also watch the Beginner Stained Glass Cutting video.) Â

HELP/CLASS TIME

MATERIALS
Material costs depend on the size of your project and the glass colors you pick out. Most students spend $25-$50. Beginners start with a square or rectangular dish. (7x7†candy dish bowl, 8x8â€/10x10â€/12x12†shallow slumper dish, or 6x13â€/7x14†platter.) Left over glass can be used to make a 3x3†jewelry dish, 3.5x3.5†ginger plate, or 4x4†coaster.
FIRING FEES
Pay half price on the firing fee for your first project. (50% off the $14-$33 firing cost for projects listed in the “Materials†section). Jewelry dish, ginger plate, coaster, and jewelry firings are free. For a list of firing sizes and fees, go to the fusing class page of the Great Glass Galore website.

Owner/Instructor, Linda Ehlers, guides you through the process of making an 11x14†fifteen piece stained glass copper foil project (sun/lake/grass/mountains/tree scene). These videos cover pattern making, jig making, cutting, grinding, fitting, foiling, soldering, metal framing, adding hooks, applying patina, and cleaning.Â
- YouTube: The 7 part (11 videos-227 minutes) series is available on YouTube. You'll need to use your email to create a YouTube account. To keep the videos secure, they are private and you'll receive one email for each video in the series except the intro (10 emails). Part 1 - Intro is public, and you can see that by going directly to the Great Glass Galore YouTube channel.
- Memoery Stick: The 11 videos are also available on an encrypted memory stick that you can pick up or have mailed to your house.  There is a $10 memory stick deposit fee that is refunded when the memory stick is returned. Postage is also added on if mailed.
